Recently, the Pentagon has been trying to work out how to balance religious tolerance with laws and restrictions. The efforts are starting with the “Military Religious Freedom Association”, and extreme atheist organization run by Mikey Weinstein.
It is abundantly clear that this is a misstep on behalf of the Pentagon. Weinstein is one of the last people the Pentagon should be consulting with when it comes to tolerance.
“Free exercise of religion dates back to the beginning of our military, all the way back to George Washington brining chaplains in,” claims retired Lt. General Jerry Boykin. “The very people that are now being threatened are the people out there defending the 1st amendment right.”Now, the organization the Pentagon is collaborating with is attempting to enforce a regulation that states “military members who exercise their faith should be court-martialed.”Essentially, if the regulation were passed, military personnel would be forced to hide their faith for the duration of the service. The Department of defense released the following statement on the incident:Religious proselytization is not permitted within the Department of Defense. Court-martials and non-judicial punishments are decided on a case-by-case basis. What do you think? Is it wrong to strip men and women who are defending our country of their right to religious expression?
